Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Honor Society that celebrates outstanding student achievement in the study of English. Founded in 1924 at Dakota Wesleyan University, the society has over 850 active chapters today. Members of the organization have access to scholarship, award, and publication opportunities, and may present their critical or creative work at the society’s annual spring convention.

The Alpha Omega Lambda chapter of Sigma Tau Delta was established in July 2023. Membership in the Lafayette chapter is extended to any student with an English major or minor who has: completed 5 courses in the English department; maintained a 3.5 GPA across all English courses; and maintained a 3.25 cumulative GPA.
