Each spring, the Lafayette English Department awards three prizes to English students. The Class of 1883 Prize is awarded to a senior who has demonstrated excellence in English over the student’s entire career at Lafayette. The Gilbert Prize, established in 1894, recognizes superior achievement in English and is shared amongst English majors in their second, third, and final years at the college. The Francis A. March Fellowship is awarded to a graduating senior or recent graduate who has been accepted into a graduate program and intends to pursue a career in higher education.
